Future Past

A blipping tradition for me is a picture of this statue when I visit. Mainly because there is no explanation anywhere about it and yet it sits in plain sight for all to see.

Here is the text from my first Blip of this little fella....

Symi: WWII.

The Germans occupied this fair island and were not happy. Food supplies were low and things were not going well for anyone, the locals were starving and under orders to surrender all fish caught, on pain of death! In desperation the Greeks sent their children out to go and catch food for the family. They thought even the Nazis wouldn't execute little children.

They were wrong.

This statue is dedicated to all the young boys that tried to feed their families.
