Symbolism

Really enjoyed taking part in Processions 2018 yesterday, watching the coverage when I got home and reading about it on social media and elsewhere.

Part of that analysis has been on the symbolism of the suffragette's colour - green, white, purple with different explanations offered.

Some say the colours  Green White Violet  (rather than purple) were chosen as a way of saying Give Women  the Vote.

Others report that: Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence, editor of Votes for Women, a weekly newspaper, explained “Purple, as everyone knows is the royal colour, it stands for the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity… white stands for purity in private and public life… green is the colour of hope and the emblem of spring.”

And others suggest  it was both.

Modern day explanations tend to focus on loyalty for purple rather than loyalty and green with growth.  Purity can also be defined in different ways - for me it symbolises acting with integrity.

The flowers in my blip were photographed in Harrison Park on my way home from work - the white daisies caught my eye first.

Modern explanations tend to associate purple with loyalty and dignity
