New Life

We spent most of the day driving around Mount Etna. It's still very active and even in March this year there was a bit of a panic in Catania , where we are right now, when it started to get a bit lively.
There are huge swathes of lava down the mountainside and some have new trees and plants starting to grow. I liked these patches of colourful little flowers growing up among the black lava. They look like bacterial growths on a petri dish, we thought!
We didn't go on a tour right to the top as there was thick cloud but we might consider it later in the week if feasible.

Extra, Silvestri craters near Catania.
See LooseCanon's blip for more craters!
