Carew Castle

We all enjoyed our visit to this castle this morning, just 15 minutes down the road from where we are staying.

Situated spectacularly on the River Carew, the original castle was built by the Normans, developed in Medieval times then extended into an Elizabethan mansion, supposedly by an Illegitimate son of Henry VIII. It's been derelict since the mid-17thCentury but many areas such as the towers, Great Hall, Chapel and bedrooms are still accessible and it was very interesting to wander round and discover it's chequered history.

From here we went on to Saundersfoot for a spot of lunch and a stroll onthe beach before coming back for a final session in the pool.

Back home tomorrow but it's been a great week away.
