Fuzzy Friday

So a few weeks ago we noticed that one of the ducks had built a nest under a wooden ark Bro4 built as a shelter for the hens. She was decidedly grumpy and not keen to shift so we just left her to it. We’ve had ducks for 6 years and none of them have ever gone broody so we kind of expected her to change her mind and wander off it.
However she sat tight and we sneaked a few eggs out to candle them to see if they were developing and sure enough we could see little flutterings and veiny patterns.
Bro1 reinforced the ark, added an extension and secured it all with wire and we waited for a few weeks, given the development of the eggs we candled we expected hatching to be early next week.
I went to have a peek at her late this afternoon and discovered ducklings! Only one at first then another couple who are all looking well, already dried off and fuzzy so they must have started hatching late last night or early this morning.
I sneaked a couple out to show The Bros much to Mama Duck’s disgust, got this quick pic and put them safely back.
Very exciting.
