Monarch of the Glen

Today's the day ………………………… for something new

The Parish Church in Kirkcudbright was fairly buzzing this morning - with a constant stream of people arriving for the 11.00am Service.

It has become a bit of a tradition that on the Sunday of the Kirkcudbright Jazz Festival, quite a few of the jazz musicians taking part in the festival will provide the musical backing for the Church Service (see extra).  You can imagine just how different this makes it for those in the congregation - and it was a truly joyous and magical event!

The other new experience for us today was to visit the newly refurbished  Kirkcudbright Galleries.  Formerly the Town Hall, this 19th century building has been transformed into a spectacular contemporary art gallery.  It always did manage to put on some incredible exhibitions - but now the building itself is more than up to the job.

This is Edwin Landseer's painting 'The Monarch of the Glen' on short term loan from 9 - 27 June to celebrate the opening ………………………..
