Power Cut!

What a busy day. Older son returned from a short trip to Berlin at 1am this morning, catching a few hours sleep before he had to get up for GCSE maths exam. I spent the day in a workshop with wonderful interesting colleagues from South Sudan, the Gaza Strip, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Myanmar (everyone agreed England is COLD!). Got home to find the boys eagerly unwrapping their long-awaited new X-box game and then - disaster strikes* - we have a power cut.

So out come the candles, followed by the wine. It reminded me of the power cuts we had when I was child due to the miner's strike. It all seemed very exciting then as a five year old, candles and cooking on one of those little camping gas stoves.

Anyway the power's back on now. All down the road people are putting out their candles and turning on the TVs again..... so at least we can see the US election results as they come in.

*teenage boys definition of 'disaster' - very different to what my colleagues from Gaza, South Sudan etc would call a disaster!
