Olive trees

Today is Father’s Day and l had brought the cards from our daughter and son with me. My husband was surprised and delighted to receive them. We arranged to chat later with them both.

Despite the very heavy rainfall this morning we chanced our luck and set off on a circular walk along the Corfu Trail. We wandered through large areas of olive groves and l was struck by how many of the branches were dripping with lichen and moss, but then it does rain a lot here. We had our lunch in a little shack as it looked like rain but it didn’t materialise. Swallows were flying around us and we saw many butterflies including a very pretty lemon yellow and orange one that doesn’t stop moving, a large orange one and a very pretty black and white one that resembled a flower as it’s edges were very frilled.

After lunch we reached this area of olive trees where l was struck by the contrasting colours. Then we had had some far reaching views of the nearby hills and mainland in the distance. We half thought of walking to a nearby village but it was further than we thought but l took a shot of the church in the distance see extras. We retraced our steps and then decided to take the alternative route back. This was a mistake as it looked like rain and we scampered down the easy road missing any side tracks. When we arrived in the back streets of a village we thought it was the one we had started from but no. We managed to find another track back up to our village and arrived home having done about 9 miles.
