Stuff and Nonsense

Chaco Owl

This morning it was drizzling until nearly lunchtime, so we waited until 11am to leave for Picton Castle, not really to see the castle but to see the owls :)
We had booked an owl experience which was fabulous. 90 minutes walking around the gardens exercising 3 different owls and learning all about them. We both loved it.
I took a whole bundle of shots(of course I did!), but was actually quite disappointed with a lot of them - I obviously had the settings all wrong and they ended up being quite grainy, not that I realised this until we got back home.…..but we had a wonderful experience so never mind.
I managed to rescue a few shots and this little fellow was called Gizmo, a Chaco Owl from South America. He was born on 1st April, so is only about 11 weeks old and still has a lot of his downy fluffy feathers, but he will not grow much bigger at all. He was about 350g in weight and around 30cm tall, so classed as a medium sized owl.

In extras, you will also find Siren, a tiny tropical screech owl who only weighed about 150g, and on the other end of the scale there was Ozzy, who is an Asian Rock Eagle Owl and weighed about 900g.

Not decided if we will chance Skomer tomorrow as the weather is looking quite dodgy, but then it's looking windy on Thursday, our last opportunity, and this could stop the boat from running - what a dilemma!
