The Lozarithm Lens

Birmingham and Fazeley Canal

Up to the Midlands on family business last week, and it seemed appropriate, on the day after my parents' birthday to stop on the way up at Upton House. We saw a strange exhibition of art by Glenn Brown there and walked around the gardens, under the ominous threat of rain. These included a Mirror Lake, a Sunken Lawn and a Bog Garden that had a pond with some impressive fish in it. We did not escape the rain as it poured down while we headed back to the car, sheltering under the trees on the driveway.

After lunch at the Dog and Doublet we made the traditional walk along the towpath to the Kingsbury Water Park and visited the memorial bench. On our previous visit I had managed to lose the lens hood of my telephoto lens, and then the lens cap of the same lens when we had returned to see if it had been handed in. The curse struck yet again when I took my camera out and found that its expensive GPS device had somehow become detached from the camera as we returned in the downpour from Upton House, and had disappeared. E-mails to them have bounced back as their in-box is full, and the message on their answering service remains unanswered.

The autumn colours at the water park and along the canal were glorious. We visited the hides and from them saw these cormorants and waterfowl on the lakes. On the way back to the pub we passed the free range chickens at Cheatle Farm.

We also visited the unsold house to do a little work and drove home in the dark through the delights of Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon under further driving rains.
