not a hobby

when people ask me what I do, I hesitate.

If I say "I'm an artist", this often prompts the response "that's nice". Or "wish I had a hobby". That then leaves me the option....do I smile nicely...or argue? It's not a hobby, I do it because I love it, am obsessed by it. At times it's infuriating, puzzling, challenging, depressing, annoying, exhausting. So you see it's not a hobby.

It's work. Blip allows me to show a little of what I do. This is what I've been doing this week. A series of small still lives, just done in pencil, graphite & compressed charcoal.
