John Graham, First Viscount of Dundee, 7th Laird of Claverhouse, has had a mixed bag from history. Some modern historians have questioned his reputation for cruelty in the suppression of Presbyterians.

But he died at Killiekrankie, and three days later was buried here in St Bride’s Church in Atholl. Under heavy metal doors, locked and padlocked. Clearly no plans to let “that deil Dundee” rise again.
