Uist beaches are hard to beat, but Luskentyre has the scenic advantage of the rugged Harris hills behind its turquoise waters. It also has a couple of photogenic horses (I was told that this one is called Toby). Also, at 11am there was a meet-up of Golden Retrievers. Their owners threw tennis balls into the sea and the happy dogs ran into the waves and swam out with them in their mouths. On Uist beaches, footprints are a rarity, but here there were plenty of people. It didn't matter - on such a huge expanse there was plenty of room for all.

This afternoon, we are on Scalpay, which is connected to Harris by an impressive bridge. It was formally opened in 1997 and the first person to cross was Scalpay's oldest resident, 103 -year-old Kirsty Morrison. You can read about it HERE.
