Not a Squirrel

This slightly-the-worse-for-wear Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly enjoying blackberry blossom nectar with that agile tongue was a welcome sight this morning!

At one point a bee landed on the same blackberry blossom as the butterfly, but despite the difference in their sizes, the butterfly quickly yielded the blossom to the bee.

This butterfly species ranges from British Columbia to North Dakota in the north to Baja California and Mexico in the south. That's nearly 4,000 kilometers/2,453 miles as the proverbial crow flies.

I couldn't resist adding an extra of our blossoming astrantia, particularly after seeing walkingMarj's beautiful blip today!
