We went to an open day at a nearby fenland farm. They grow a lot of celery.

I was pleased to hear they’re leaving parts of their land to nature, giving the birds and the beasts somewhere to go.

The farm had dug a hole in the ground to show us what they had to work with: a top layer of peaty soil, with solid, dense clay below.
