Honey Bee

After a couple of hot and tiring days in the field it was a relief to spend much of the day inside, writing a report. But nature still featured. In the cool grey morning light, the Verbascum flower-spikes were humming with many Tree Bumblebee, gathering the bright orange pollen. We found five Privet Hawk moths in the trap, as well as brand new Common Footman and Common Emerald - not a scale missing.

In the evening, Honey Bees were busy gathering pollen from many garden flowers, including this spectacular steel-blue Eryngium, and the Swifts were screaming overhead, accompanied by their newly fledged offspring.
