Redcurrant Anyone?

First job today was to pick the redcurrant from our garden, so that they are not left to the mercy of the birds and weather when we are away.

This lot weighed in at 3.5 kg when all the stalks were removed. I also harvested 0.3 kg last night. I am simply going to freeze them and make some redcurrant jelly when we get back from our holiday.

It looks as though the courgettes and strawberries will be ready next week - so we will miss out on those this year. Runner beans we may be lucky with as they are just flowering…whose idea was it go on holiday in July?? Blackcurrants look fine, tomatoes are just flowering but I suspect a lack of water will finish them off. Raspberries will be fine as they wont fruit for a month or so yet.

Popped to Wetherby for a couple of last minute essentials, like some wine,  and then went to the tip with the contents of our bin - it will be almost four weeks until it is emptied again and if we leave stuff in that long it will grow legs and walk to the tip itself!

Final washing done and everything is ready to be packed later. I shall run the mower over the grass - it hasn’t grown much but looks really untidy.

Setting off tomorrow morning (visiting relatives on the way) and sailing Sunday. Blipping may be infrequent and backblipped when we get to ports. Comments may be be limited too.
