Lisbon

My first time in Lisbon. Up very early. The flight left on time and arrived in Lisbon about half an hour early. We were in Lisbon city centre before 11:00.
After checking in at our hotel and dropping off our luggage we went out to explore. The hotel is in the heart of the city just off the Rossio Square. We had hardly begun to explore when down the first street we saw this escalator a hundred yards or so from where we are staying. It was designed by an apprentice of Eiffel.
We went for lunch at a patisserie close to the hotel where I had a beer and a baguette. After lunch we continued our walk, going down to the riverside, perhaps a 15 minute walk from the hotel. At the end of the pedestrianised road leading from the hotel to the riverside there is a huge piazza surrounded by very impressive architecture.
We sat at a bar (Can Can) in the sunshine until it was time for us to return to the hotel to go to our room. In the afternoon we had a short rest, having been awake since 3am, before going out again. Before we went out we went to the hotel bar to cash in our vouchers for a complimentary glass of Port. We found quite a nice, though probably rather touristy restaurant where we both had paella for dinner.
