Utility Poles, Boreham Street

I first came across poles of this type as a child, passing through the village of Lower Dicker while being driven to Eastbourne along the A22 almost exactly half a century ago, in the middle of July 1968.

The poles there have long gone, but many of the same sort survive in villages a little to the east - as here in Boreham Street, near Herstmonceux.

I hope those that survive now might still be around in another 50 years. Maybe some campaign is needed to afford them some form of statutory protection as listed historical 'heritage' structures.
