Irish Seed Savers

As soon as we started the research and demonstration farm in Lusangazi, we began to look for open pollinated seeds to save and the first people I spoke to were Irish Seed Savers in Scarrif, County Clare. Since then they have given us loads of seeds at the end of the Irish growing season (the beginning of the Malawian).
We seem to have started a whole new diet in Malawi BEETROOT. It is the only root crop they have taken to. Of course we only know our own area around Mzuzu, about 250 farmers.
One of our teachers, Maureen McFeeley used it as a means of teaching English vocabulary. Of course she cooked it and gave out samples, now everyone wants some. Even one of the seed suppliers now had HYBRID seeds.
Of course we have O.P seeds from ISS, which we can save and pass on.
Look at the pack at the back right of picture.
I'm like a small child on Christmas morning wondering what's in the bag!!

Of course they also started us on growing apples in Malawi where everyone said it couldn't be done!!

Thanks Jo for all the help
