What lies beneath?

Out for a bike ride this morning before the threatening clouds arrived. More butterflies were on the wing over the fields and scrub land but they were unwilling to settle. This spider's weaving looked interesting but I didn't investigate any further to discover what was inside. Some showers later on but not heavy enough to do any good so far.
