Diary of an Edinburgher

Where is she?

Archie's surprise today was the return of his favourite person, Elizabeth. She's been away on holiday for a week. What a carry on when she came in the gate! Here he is waiting. He looks around if she doesn’t immediately arrive, as if to say, 'Well, where is she?'

After they had gone, we jumped into the new car and set off for a wee drive, and perchance an ice cream. Well, wrong idea. The traffic going out of town was bumper to bumper for miles. It took us about an hour to get out of it and go over 5mph.

But once we were out, it was great. Haven’t been down south for ages. We arrived in Lauder and stopped at our favourite wee cafe, the Flat Cat, where cake may have been consumed. Actually, Lauder is looking very nice - flower baskets everywhere, flash bus shelters, and with a good choice of pubs and cafes. We resisted the temptation to pop into th Black Bull for a Sunday roast at £9.99.

Because we'd taken so long to get out of town, we cut across country to Stow instead of going on to Melrose. The thought of bumper to bumper traffic on the way back in hung over us, but it did not happen - straight in.

Straight out into the back garden for some leftover ice cream. The neighbours had just been out picking fruit (there were peas too! - I MUST check this place out) and gave us a punnet full of cherries, strawberries and raspberries.. Perfect with the ice cream.

Elizabeth stayed for a BBQ tea. Though no Prosecco was drunk.
