In the footsteps of the Romans....

We had to escape from the haar today, only 17 degrees in St Andrews.
This is a good circular walk fromAuchinstarry on the Forth and Clyde canal, up to Croy Hill a great viewpoint where there was a roman fort and signal platform, then along this stretch of the Antonine Wall, you can se the ditch dug by the legionaries on Tad’s left. I’m always amazed at the work they did with basic technology-spades and mattocks. On to Castle Hill an Iron Age fort, more views, & almost beside it, Barr Hill where there is the remnants of another Roman fort. Down to Twechar & back along the canal. A very enjoyable day.
The extra is Auchinstarry.
