a lifetime burning

Arrivals

This view of Port Ellen during Golden Hour was taken on the evening of our arrival on Islay.

We set off from Dumbarton that morning on the bikes and road up Loch Lomond to Oban, and then from Oban down to Kennacraig where we caught a ferry to Islay.  We had a quick coffee stop in Oban, and the mono extra show the bikes fully laden.  As is traditional we "enjoyed" the CalMac curry of the day during the voyage.

Later, while on deck we caught sight of a pair of dolphins.   Neither of us had a suitable lens on our cameras at the time - but for me it wasn't a photo opportunity.  I have never seen dolphins in the wild before, so this was a very special moment indeed.

We had not thought to reserve a table at Port Ellen's Sea Salt restaurant for the Sunday night, and inevitably it was fully booked.  So instead we smuggled some purchases from the Co-Op into the Ardview Inn and surreptitiously enjoyed them with our beers :-)
