July 4th flower

This plant has many tall spear-like leaves and it always manages to bloom within a day of the 4th of July. The flowers seem to bloom like a sky rocket, with the ones on top fully unfurling. And the color is perfect as well. This is the only "bloom" on it so far.

Made some cherry oat bar cookies to take to dinner at the neighbor's house tonight. I got some Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream to go with them. Gonna be good!  I also went to the gym to work off some calories in preparation. :)

We also kind of dread the 4th because of the effect the fireworks have on Salem. She becomes a complete mess, shivering and drooling and very needy, like she tries to sit on my head in the bed (which she normally is not allowed to get on). So, we lie there, until the wee hours, shaking dog on head, trying to keep the drool on the towel and not my face. I have tried sedating her in years past but it doesn't seem to make any difference. This time, we have 2 fans on and music playing, and maybe she won't hear as much. Still won't get much sleep.
