And The Band Played On
Decatur, our county seat, calls itself an All American City. Tonight we again were reminded why. The crowd was black, white, Asian, Hispanic and wearing ball caps, tricorns, saris, yarmulkes and hijabs. We partied together. And the band played patriotic music. As the fireworks began the skies opened up, we all ran for cover but no one left and the band kept playing and the fireworks kept going. The rain stopped we all cheered. We felt proud and full of hope. This is the America I know and love.
