Border Tails

Home for a big tea towel?

I start and finish earlier on a Thursday as I have a client in Annan, between my usual one in Cumbria and meeting my colleague at Abington.  This meant that I had time to nip into Galashiels for some shopping and to take a picture of this area near the centre of town.

This used to be a modern building housing “Poundstretcher”, then a discount furniture store.  It has been razed to the ground recently and soon construction will begin on a new permanent home for the Great Tapestry of Scotland.  A few years ago on blip, I followed the creation of one of the panels and I look forward to seeing it along with many others in their new home.   I believe the old post office, to the right of the picture is to be incorporated too.

There has been a fair bit of criticism of the plans on social media and the tapestry has been referred to as a “tea towel” or “thon rug”, amongst other unflattering descriptions, but I have to say that there are thousands of people who have visited it as it has toured the country - it’s in New Lanark just now - and if we can attract visitors to our town, then it will be no bad thing.
