Out of its habitat

I spotted this creature on the way out of school tonight. Not sure the shot does it justice and certainly not the scale of it - it was about 4 or 5 cm long and just sat on the roadway on the way out of school. Luckily, it had timed its arrival quite a bit after the native species had left site. A bit of googling tonight and it would appear to be a Giant Woodwasp, usually found in coniferous woodland - as opposed to on a school playground.

Nothing particularly remarkable about the rest of the day. Bailey wasn't too keen on being up and about this morning and even less impressed at being left. It's been a much warmer day today than we have had even in this lengthy warm spell. It was 17 degrees already on the way into work and 28 on the way home. At least less teaching means less time spent in stuffy classrooms with over-heating teenagers.
