Scoots, Shoots & Leaves

Dance of the Cranes

This is a very common sight in Portland these days - so much construction going on. Which I guess is a good thing, economy-wise, but it can also be disruptive and unsightly. So, I figure one of my roles as photographer is to take something unsightly and make it beautiful, or at least find the interest in it, whether it be lines or shapes or shadows or light.

I like this grouping of cranes down on the Willamette River, and the barges and platforms. This is the site of a future bridge that will carry our light rail - an ever-expanding mass transit project, due to be finished in three years.

Not as elegant as these cranes dancing, however.

fyi: to the right is the Marquam Bridge, one of two interstate freeways through Portland. In back is what's called the west hills and at left, Oregon Health Sciences University, a stellar teaching hospital and trauma center.
