Loch Ness

2nd back blip
Up early after a rather restless (and warm) night as we had to be on the bus for 6.45am for the 2+ hour trip to Fort Augustus (did manage a bit of sleep on the bus) where the event started.
It was already hot when we started out and after the first couple of miles which had a bit of shade we were out in open country and full sun. Some people might like running in the heat but I'm not one, so I knew more walking would take place than last year. However, I wasn't too much slower (and some of the track was rougher than a year ago) but did find it draining and a slightly longer changeover to bike ensued.
The pic was fairly early in the climb (nearly 800m in all) but fortunately some cloud gathered and a breeze got up once we were a bit further on.
There was a problem with the front brake fouling the wheel (not a problem 2 days before, and a kind competitor stopped and looked at it for me and improved it a bit) but I had to make the best of it - but it gives a good excuse for being a bit slower, along with the gentler tail wind, the heat and being a year older!
Made it back to Aviemore, a total of 13+ miles running and nearly 40 cycling, just in time to receive my old lady's prize of a bottle of champagne and see Mr Rat receive the old man's prize of a bottle of whisky. Nothing like keeping it in the family.
