Haraldshaugen

We had spent the night at a rather fine wee campsite at Haugesund; 220 krone for the night including a shower and free wifi. We had looked round the town the previous evening, but went down again in the morning to go to the tourist information and get stuff for heading north towards Bergen. As far as we can tell Haugesund’s only claim to fame is Haraldshaugan, Norway’s national monument and the subject of today’s blip. We went to Ryvaden Fyr for the view and then took the ferry north towards Bergen, which we bypassed to the east to avoid the road tolls. We then spent a frustrating hour or more trying to find a place to stop for the night. The only good place had a nasty infection of motorhomes so we pressed on and eventually found a place much later than we wanted. Looking back at the diary from two years ago it was the anniversary of having huge hassle to find a place, again near Bergen; it’s really very populated hereabouts. And to cap it all England won; it will be a remainer from the Celtic fringe’s worst nightmare should they win the damn thing, as it will bring out the very worst patriotic ‘little Englanders’ crowing about how great the country is again and how the empire will rise phoenix –like. Come on Croatia; you’re the penultimate hope.
