Irma's Kitchen

Today my neighbor Avelino and I went to the Maricopa County Animal Shelter for him to look at small dogs.  It was very well run, very clean, all the animals so well cared for...and there were so many animals.  I cried.  Apparently many run away on July 4th because of their fear of fireworks.  Why are they not in the house I wonder since it is so hot and everyone knows most dogs hate fireworks.

But afterwards we went to Irma's kitchen, a little tiny Mexican place open from 7-2 on Sunday.   We met Irma (she's in the photo with a hairnet on), she was a delight and she made us wonderful chili rellenos.  She is expanding to a larger place and this original place will be her bakery for the larger place.  She is moving in the new place either August or September.  We also met Jorge, the waiter newly arrived from Tijuana, Mexico.  He starts next week teaching special education children at a downtown Phoenix school.  He is thrilled to be in this country and to have this new job.  He was so happy and upbeat, totally infectious.  It was a great way to end a hot day!
