This morning we took refuge from the sun at the British Library - no real hardship. Gordon was soon off in for a second visit to the ‘James Cook’ exhibition, which he had enjoyed on a previous visit. I sat outside (in the shade) reading my book for a while before going in. The morning queue for the Library always fascinates me - who are these people? Students, researchers, writers, visitors . . .

They don’t have to wait long before they get inside and disperse to all corners of this wonderful building.

Now we are on the train home.

Oh and ‘The English Patient’ won the public vote for the Golden Booker. A worthy winner. It was an excellent award ceremony last night, with professional readings from the books and some appearances by authors themselves. It’s not often that The Guardian devotes a whole page to something we were at.
