New Kid in Town

We've lived in this house since January 2002, but until today had never seen a Cedar Waxwing!

They are primarily fruit-eaters, and prefer open, lowland woodlands, which is what the terrain is just over our backyard fence. We have mostly native plants in the back, including mature Red Huckleberry and Evergreen Huckleberry bushes, with bumper crops of berries this year.

As is evident in the extra, this juvenile Cedar Waxwing approved of the Evergreen Huckleberry it was having for breakfast! I hope it will stay around and perhaps find a mate.

Bird-watching is a wonderful antidote to the political news...
