Carnforth Station

Today's the day ……………………….. to be on duty

A stint this afternoon as a volunteer at Carnforth Station Heritage Centre.

It was at this location that the platform scenes in the iconic film 'Brief Encounter', starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, were shot.  This is the famous clock photographed from the equally famous underpass.  They featured frequently as the main characters (usually full of angst) ran up or down to catch their trains.  It is the actual clock used in the film - but apparently the face was covered with a paper version because it was necessary to show a variety of times relevant to the scene being shot.

Visitors to the Centre find it all very interesting and are generally very complimentary with their comments in our Visitors' Book.  Here's the latest page today.  You might just be able to make out the top one, written by the actor/author/broadcaster and former MP, Giles Brandreth, who paid us a visit yesterday …………………………….
