Blipping Beauty

Read something in a book a friend gave me, Generous Justice, by Timothy Keller, that reminded me of Blippers, and how you are invariably such kind and generous people...

He's referring to another book, On Beauty and Being Just, by Elaine Scarry, where she first argues that "the observer of beauty always receives a passion to share the beauty with others". Then she argues that "beauty radically decenters the self and moves you to distribute attention away from yourself" and tells of a experience that Iris Murdoch had where she was absorbed in anxiety and self-pity, but then looked out a window to see a hovering kestrel, and "in a moment everything is altered. The brooding self with its hurt vanity has disappeared".

He goes on to say: "In the presence of beauty you cease to be the hero in your own story. It is no longer all about you."

Always so much beauty to be seen, and shared; it's a privilege to be part of this here, I thank you all.

As the Thai divers said, Hooyah!
