Helsinki Day 2

Beautiful weather today although with a strong wind. We had a lovely day of sightseeing. This is the Sibelius Monument. One of the extras shows what it really looked like - subtitled "one million Chinese tourists can't be wrong"! Barnacle Geese (Valkoposkihanhi) wandered about in the park and I also saw lots of Fieldfares (Räkättiristas). Very odd seeing those in summer! They hop about all over the place like Blackbirds.

We saw the Three Smiths, the Lönnrot statue and the Haris Amanda fountain. We also had a good wander round the market square and a look round (but not in as there were services on) Uspenski Cathedral and the Rock Church. We did get to see inside Helsinki Cathedral though.
Extras include Helsinki Cathedral and Senate Square.

The seagulls in Helsinki are mainly Common (Kalalokki) and Black Headed Gulls (Nauralokki) but my goodness they are scary! Little House Sparrows (Varpunen) hop about among your feet and look for crumbs.
