Nockberge

It is difficult to get your head around the scale of the 'rolling green hills' of the Nockberge region in Austria. We took the easy way up from Saint Oswald on the cablecar to 1908m. The charming little ridge walk has the look of an afternoon stroll on the south downs except for the distances. We walked for several hours and the route wound over several tops adorned with crosses to the Malnock 2331m, but we could have continued on all day towards the peaks at Falkert.

Extra: The view along the route the the north takes in the massive wall of the Tauern with the Pasterze glacier on the Großglockener in the far distance. The huts in the image lie below at around 1650, so not tempting to pop down quickly for beer and apfelstrudel.
