Off on our travels.....

We're off on our holiday! Yes! Nothing exotic , we heading to the Scottish Borders. We've never visited this part of the UK before, so are looking to explore as much as we can.

But to start our week off we headed West rather than East once we got to Scotland. We're members of the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust, as I visit Martin Mere in Lancashire quite a bit when my other half goes and watches his footie team - Preston North End.

So we'd thought we'd make a detour and got to Caerlaverock in Dumfries and Galloway. It's a small reserve, but it was quiet and peaceful. A really nice stop for lunch rather than a motorway service station. It's more of a winter bird watering hole, but we were treated to dragonflies and damselflies, along with a view of an osprey nest on a webcam. And watching the swallows and house martins fly up to their nests in the viewing tower  (while we were inside) was amazing.

Our base for the week is a cottage on a farm between Selkirk and Melrose. The extra is a shot along one of the farm lanes as the sun was beginning to set.

By the end of the day we were a bit pooped, but looking forward to the next week's adventures.
