Day 193/18. A Teneral Keeled Skimmer

A fabulous morning at my favourite location in the New Forest for Dragonflies.
A lot of activity and many different species now, at the height of the season. This one probably emerged only yesterday and is yet to develop its true colours and full acrobatic flying ability. Sunning itself, it allowed me to get in close enough with my macro lens to get this shot. Probably around 6cm long, this shot is from a distance of less than 50cm.
I remain hugely impressed with these spectacular creatures.
They have excellent eyesight to enable them to capture food (other insects) while flying. Clearly I was not seen as a threat.
