My flesh also shall rest in hope

A rather strange expression carved on a medieval building on our way through the village of Penshurst today. It is Thursday walk day and so friend H and l set off to walk from Hever (home of Anne Boleyn and her family) through the Eden Valley in Kent to the delightful village of Leigh.
What a beautiful day and what beautiful scenery we passed. The countryside is looking very parched as there has been no rain for the last 5 weeks and temperatures up in the late 20s for most that time. Penshurst is a pretty village dominated by Penshurst Place, an unfortified manor house (see extra) and a rather fine church. Part of the walk runs alongside the Medway river where H had a quick swim before we hurried on to catch the train back to London. Out of the house for almost 12 hours and feet feeling the worse for wear so bed calls.
