Liverpool Biennial

It's that time of (every other) year again and another Biennial. This year is short on spectacular, but rich in intrigue. In Blackburne House Taus Makhacheva has created a kind of ruined, broken sculpture as a reminder of artworks lost and destroyed over the years. Participants are invited to book for what is described as a facial treatment in the spa, but in reality what is being made is a kind of death mask which will then be displayed along with all the others created over the course of the festival. What happens to them thereafter is anybody's guess.

There are some really powerful pieces this year, but they do require a bit more concentration and digging than in previous iterations.
