Chalk Hill

A year or so ago our daughter called to tell us about a tasting room for Medlock Ames wines in the Alexander Valley. She said it had a wonderful garden she thought we would like. It is a block from one of our favorite haunts in this beautiful wine growing region, so one day we went along to check it out. It did indeed have a wonderful vegetable garden, and they also have a friendly staff and make excellent wine.

As we were sipping wine and chatting with John who was pouring for us, Oilman leaned back against the bar, looked around and said, "I could live here." With its wall of windows overlooking the terrace and garden, salvaged wood flooring and quirky architectural lighting, I had to agree. We both spent a moment envisioning ourselves living in such a place. I think this was the beginning of our serious house hunt in Sonoma County.

Today we went to pick up a case of wine at the Medlock Ames winery on Chalk Hill. We joined the wine club there, which means we can buy a special selection of wines at discounted prices and pick them up four times a year at a "pick-up party". It's informal and fun with wonderful food and, of course wine.
It seemed the perfect excuse to leave our bombed out house in Berkeley and have a day of R&R.

Back into the fray tomorrow...
