A-peel-ing

We noticed that some of the lemons in the tree outside our house had no peel / rind. The main inside is perfectly intact. See example about a third of the way into the photo from the left.

A bit of research has found that it is likely caused by a ‘citrus rat’. They prefer the rind as it is very sweet. We’ve now spotted the wee bugger in the tree. As long as he doesn’t eat all the lemons then ok! I still find it amazing that this occurs and how precise they are removing the rind!

Circle of life though... rat eats the lemon rind. The ants eat the lemons. The birds eat the ants. Ok maybe more a line at the moment but still!
