The path back to the car

On this visit Alex and I stayed at Hartington Hall Youth Hostel, which proved to be very good value for money, albeit a bit busy as there were two school trips staying. We escaped to have dinner in the local pub, an excellent home made beetroot and goat's cheese tart with the lightest, flakiest pastry and salad for me, and although we had booked beds in shared dormitories, I was completely alone and there was only one other man in Alex's, so we both had a good night's sleep.

Nevertheless, it was hard to start out on another day of hot fieldwork. My legs felt quite fatigued, not helped by the muscle I'd torn about ten days ago, and although we were on site quite early, the temperature climbed rapidly and there was less breeze than yesterday which made it feel more exhausting.

By half past two we decided that there was no more that we could do, so set off down this path back towards the car, and a welcome cup of coffee before negotiating the traffic systems of Derby and Nottingham in the rush-hour.
