St Swithin’s Day

Today is St Swithin’s Day, and according to folklore, if it rains on St. Swithin’s Day, it will rain for 40 days, but if it is fine, the next 40 days will be too. So after today’s warm sunny weather we may be set fair through to the end of August. Hopefully.
Who was St. Swithin? He was Bishop of Winchester from AD 852 to 862. At his request he was buried in the churchyard, because he wanted rain and the steps of passers-by to fall on his grave. Which they do.
