The reservoir which supplies water to Manchester.
In the 1930s they built a dam and flooded Mardale Green. When the water is low, the village starts to show itself, so we went for a look not having seen it for a number of years. It's just beginning to show but I have seen it much much lower. Stone wall outlines of roads, fields and houses, I find it incredibly sad that the village was destroyed, the church and its graveyard moved stone by stone and coffin and coffin, and feel offended when people pick up stones and throw them in the water, displacing pieces of history. It's still interesting to visit it and walk through "the village" as it appears trying to visualise how it was It's a hard drive on the narrow, windy roads and despite the football and tennis finals being on the tv, it was heaving
