40th anniversary

Today marks the 40th anniversary of our arrival in the U.K., as immigrants.

The picture is of The George in Fordingbridge, the first English pub that we went to as a family.

My family has been somewhat nomadic over the centuries.

My maternal grandparents emigrated from Lithuania to South Africa in the late 19th century

My paternal grandfather emigrated from England at almost the same time, with his Australian born wife, of Dutch and German extraction.

My Blip today is dedicated to immigrants all, over the world. People who have suffered and still suffer from being displaced by war, prejudice, famine, poverty, economic necessity and every other reason one can imagine.

They have crossed deserts, and oceans in rickety boats, crawled under fences and scaled walls.

And even crossed mountains singing songs from The Sound of Music.

We have been lucky and warmly received, and we wish others good fortune.
