I'm not 100% certain but it looks a little to me as if the figure on the left here (part of the gloriously restored Ross fountain in Princes Street Gardens), is holding the wool for the lady on the right who has her knitting needles out!
The fountain, which was made in France and erected in 1872 was away for a year being refurbished and is now back looking very splendid. See extra, I presume they have some evidence for the colours, as I remember it as being gold.
Apparently the Rector of St John's Episcopal Church at the time, protested about the amount of nudity and delayed the installation of the fountain, sadly until after the donor's death.
The refurbishment of the fountain and much of the cost still to come, of the Ross Bandstand, has been funded by the founder of Apex Hotels. Thank you very much.
