Finally here, Sawry Knotts

Don’t go near the M6. Someone in their wisdom has decided to upgrade the M6 to a smart motorway along what seems to be most of its length. Slow, fast, slow fast on at least 6 sections.

Add to this the usual holdups owing to sheer volume of traffic and one frightening incident where a car had broken down on the third lane of a four lane section of the motorway and a lady was trying to shepherd her children to the hard shoulder. We’d been funnelled down to two lanes but some brainless motorists saw the “End” section on a gantry ahead and started to pull out into the blocked lane and the outside lane. Fortunately, in my rear view mirror I saw the people scurry across to safety.

Up to Stafford the journey was fine, making good time. After that it seemed that it was one of those journeys where the closer you got to your destination the slower you got so that you never quite seemed to reach your destination!

We experienced rain on the last part of the journey and it is cloudy and overcast here as you can see. However, this appears to be a temporary blip and the weather seems set to improve from tomorrow onwards.
